Sara Luz Estela maintains a broad practice, representing individuals and institutions in a wide range of matters in both federal and state courts. Before joining the firm, Ms. Estela completed clerkships for Judge Victor Marrero on the Southern District of New York and Judge Jenny Rivera on the New York State Court of Appeals. She was an associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP and Morrison Cohen LLP, where her practice focused on complex commercial litigation, including commercial disputes, securities and shareholder actions, as well as government and internal investigations. Ms. Estela has an active and diverse pro bono practice and has represented individuals in immigration, criminal, housing, and family court proceedings.
She received her J.D. from Stanford Law School in 2016. During law school, she completed internships at LatinoJustice PRDLEF, the Bronx Defenders, and the Federal Public Defender for the District of Puerto Rico, and she participated in the Prosecution Clinic.
She previously served on the Civil Rights Committee of the New York City Bar Association and on the Líderes Board of LatinoJustice PRLDEF.
Before starting her legal career, she was a high school English teacher in Baltimore, Maryland, where she earned a Master’s degree in Education from John Hopkins University. Ms. Estela received her B.A. in Comparative Literature from the University of Pennsylvania.
