FOX5 featured ECBAWM client to discuss abuse faced at the Anderson Center for Autism

  • December 3, 2024

On November 25, 2024, FOX5 published an exclusive story about ongoing abuse at the Anderson Center for Autism in New York, after a shocking video showing brutal abuse surfaced. In a quote to the news organization, Anil, a father whose son was abused at the Anderson Center, said, “Every day. Every day. Every day. It kills me to think about the amount of abuse and torture he went through.” The disturbing footage shows Garnet Collins, a caregiver at the facility, allegedly trying to control Anil’s son by grabbing his genitals. Collins was arrested by New York State Police and currently faces up to a decade in prison.

The video follows a history of abuse allegations at the Anderson Center, including a settlement in the early 2000s by the family of Jonathan Carey, an autistic boy who was abused there. To FOX5, ECBAWM Partner Ilann M. Maazel stated: “That video is appalling. It is shocking, and it’s inexcusable. And it’s happening out there in the open in the home, which tells you something about the culture of that home.”

The family is represented by ECBAWM attorneys Ilann M. Maazel and Ariadne Ellsworth.
