ECBAWM files suit against New York City seeking accountability for Donny Ubiera’s death on Rikers Island

On Friday, November 15, ECBAWM filed a lawsuit on behalf of the estate of Donny Ubiera, who died in August 2023 while incarcerated at Rikers Island. The suit alleges that Mr. Ubiera died of a preventable methadone overdose after City correctional officers failed to provide the supervision and care that he needed, and amidst the City’s ongoing failure to interrupt the crisis of drug trade and overdose within the City jail system.
Maricela Ubiera, Mr. Ubiera’s mother and the administrator of his estate, is represented by ECBAWM attorneys Katherine Rosenfeld, Julia Kuan, and Sonya Levitova. Read more about the suit here.
