ECBAWM Defeats Motion to Dismiss Disability Discrimination and Abuse Case Against Life’s WORC
- March 16, 2026
On March 5, the Hon. Nusrat Choudhury of the Eastern District of New York denied in its entirety a Motion to Dismiss by Life’s WORC, a nonprofit organization operating group homes for people with developmental disabilities. ECBAWM filed a lawsuit on behalf of a nonverbal autistic man, J.P., who was subjected to years of abuse, overmedication and sedation, and neglect while he lived at Life’s WORC’s East Islip residence.
The complaint describes a years-long pattern of systemic mistreatment of J.P. by both staff and management, and a subsequent cover-up by Life’s WORC’s management after a video of J.P. being assaulted surfaced in local news.
This decisive ruling further confirms Partner Ilann Maazel and Associate Eric Abrams‘ passionate fight for justice on behalf of this family. Read more about the lawsuit here.
