Max Selver represents clients in a broad range of civil rights and commercial matters in federal and state court. At the firm, Max was part of a trial team that won a jury verdict for a client assaulted by police officers, leading to an $8.5 million recovery. He has helped obtain valuable monetary settlements for sexual assault survivors, people wrongfully convicted of crimes, and disabled individuals abused in group homes. Max also represents the City of Hoboken in a lawsuit against major fossil fuel companies for decades of deceiving the public about climate change and a group of LGBTQ+ students at Yeshiva University challenging the University’s refusal to allow them to form an LGBTQ+ student group on campus.
Prior to joining ECBAWM in 2020, Max was a Litigation Fellow at Youth Represent, where he represented young people who were denied jobs and housing opportunities because of past criminal convictions. He also served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Analisa Torres and James C. Francis IV in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Max graduated magna cum laude, Order of the Coif from the New York University School of Law in 2016, where he was an Arthur Garfield Hays Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Fellow. During law school, he worked at Brooklyn Defender Services, the Legal Aid Society Juvenile Rights Practice, the ACLU Criminal Law Reform Project, and Outten & Golden LLP. He also served as a Notes Editor on the N.Y.U. Law Review. Max received his B.A. cum laude from Harvard College in 2011.
