NAACP New York State Conference Seeks to Block Department of Justice Effort to Obtain Private Voter Information

  • October 7, 2025

New York, New York – On September 25, 2025, the Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against the State of New York, its Board of Elections, and its Elections Commissioners in an attempt to force the State to produce sensitive data on registered New York voters. On October 1, 2025, the Elias Law Group and ECBAWM filed a motion on behalf of their clients, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (“NAACP”) and the NAACP New York State Conference, to intervene in the case, arguing, among other things, that the Department of Justice’s demands for voter data imperils New York voters’ privacy interests. The case caption is United States of America v. Board of Elections of the State of New York et al., 25-cv-1338 (N.D.N.Y.). Read the motion to intervene here.
