On June 23, 2026, ECBAWM filed a lawsuit against Jamaica Hospital, MediSys Health Network, Inc., and Associate Surgeon in Chief Dr. Robert Laskowski, on behalf of Rita Bahnan, a physician’s assistant employed at Jamaica Hospital.

The complaint alleges that Jamaica Hospital, a part of the MediSys Health Network, fostered a hostile work environment for women and enabled Dr. Laskowski and others to engage in years of repeated sexual harassment of female subordinates, including Ms. Bahnan. Specifically, the complaint states that Dr. Laskowski repeatedly groped Ms. Bahnan and made discriminatory and sexually inappropriate remarks to and about her.

Despite multiple reports of sexual misconduct, the hospital allegedly failed to discipline Dr. Laskowski or take effective action to protect its employees. Instead, it promoted him. Ms. Bahnan and other hospital staff formally reported the alleged harassment to the hospital administration and submitted written complaints to Human Resources, but the Hospital failed to take any meaningful action.
