ECBAWM Obtains $10M Settlement from School District and Officials on Behalf of Family of Boy Who Died by Suicide
- October 19, 2023
After opening arguments, ECBAWM has now settled a suicide case against the Bedford Central School District for $10 million. It is one of the highest settlements for such a case in the history of New York State. The case alleged that the District and its employees violated federal and state law by failing to follow a 13-year-old student’s IEP, allowing him to be bullied repeatedly, and failing to help, counsel, or even meet with him on the day of his death. Ilann Maazel, Dan Eisenberg, and paralegal Lyra Straley represented the family. Dan Cooper was the jury consultant. The family showed enormous strength and perseverance over this hard-fought, five-year litigation.
