Ronald Hernandez Hunter is an Eagle Scout who was routinely sexually abused and eventually coerced into underage sex work by his Boy Scout Assistant Scoutmaster. Fifty years after the abuse began, he is still seeking justice for the harm done to him. His ordeal is explored in an in-depth article recently published by The Guardian.

On behalf of Mr. Hunter, ECBAWM filed a lawsuit in 2020 against the Boy Scouts of America on the grounds of its negligent approach to selecting and supervising adult volunteers and the deceptive marketing of its programs as a wholesome and safe activity for children even as the organization knew about the rampant sexual abuse being perpetrated by its adult leaders.

Debbie Greenberger, an ECBAWM partner who represents Mr. Hunter in his lawsuit, is quoted in the story: “I keep thinking not only of Ron, but of all the other children who came after him who were abused by [that same Boy Scouts leader] because the Boy Scouts didn’t stop him,” she said.

Mr. Hunter’s lawsuit was filed pursuant to the Child Victims Act, which extended the statute of limitations for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse to file claims against their abusers and the facilitators of their abuse. Because the Boy Scouts of America has filed for bankruptcy protection, Mr. Hunter’s lawsuit has been stayed.
