Nick Bourland

Nick Bourland maintains a broad practice in federal and state courts and before administrative agencies, where he represents individuals, classes, and organizations in civil rights and commercial matters. Mr. Bourland has represented clients in civil rights cases involving wrongful convictions, excessive force and misconduct by police and correctional officers, and discrimination in housing, education programs, and public accommodations. He has also represented voters and civic organizations in complex election law litigation in New York and Arizona. Mr. Bourland’s commercial practice involves representing individuals, nonprofits, and businesses in contract, land use, and zoning disputes, and in defamation and anti-SLAPP cases. In his pro bono practice, Mr. Bourland has helped incarcerated clients prepare for appearances before the New York State Board of Parole and apply for executive clemency.

Prior to joining the firm as an associate in 2019, Mr. Bourland worked as an attorney at the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of General Counsel, where he completed the agency’s Legal Honors Program. During his time at HUD, Mr. Bourland represented the agency in affirmative Fair Housing Act litigation and advised agency staff on enforcement, regulatory, and ethics matters.
